  • Ensuring our team are safe

    Our Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) was reduced to 1.3 in FY24, the lowest in 15 years, reflecting a firm commitment to the physical and mental wellbeing of our employees.

  • Improving lives

    Fortescue contributed more than $87 million through its voluntary social investment programs in FY24, supporting local communities with initiatives in education, healthcare, and economic development.

  • Partnering with First Nations communities

    The Billion Opportunities program has awarded over A$5.3 billion in contracts to nearly 200 First Nations businesses since 2011, fostering economic empowerment and capacity building within First Nations communities.

  • Building a diverse and inclusive team

    Women now make up 24% of Fortescue's workforce and hold 37% of senior leadership roles, while First Nations Australians represent 11% of the Australian workforce, demonstrating significant strides in promoting diversity and inclusion.

  • Protecting cultural heritage

    We’re committed to ensuring no impact to First Nations heritage without consultation and consent, with zero significant heritage incidents reported in FY24, reflecting robust engagement and respect for cultural sites.

Fortescue is leading the charge towards a sustainable future with an ambitious plan to achieve Real Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030. We are pioneering the use of renewable energy and green hydrogen technologies. Our commitment to safeguarding the planet drives us to innovate continually, investing millions in biodiversity conservation.

  • Environmental stewardship

    Fortescue invested over A$6 million in biodiversity research and conservation programs in FY24, implementing comprehensive environmental management systems.

  • Eliminating emissions

    We’re aiming for Real Zero Scope 1 and 2 emissions across our Australian terrestrial iron ore operations by 2030, supported by investments in renewable energy, green hydrogen projects, and the deployment of electric and hydrogen-powered mining equipment.

    As we build our Energy business and decarbonise our Metals business, we also build our green energy value chains. Starting from scratch, this enables us to take advantage of the opportunity to apply global best practices and leading concepts for product stewardship on the road to Real Zero.

This is not just another Climate Transition Plan - the kind that may be high on ambition but low on delivery.

It is a detailed timeline and a clear action plan, already underway, for how we will stop burning fossil fuels across our Australian terrestrial iron ore operations by 2030.

And it sets out in concrete terms how we will achieve this without voluntary carbon offsets and without carbon capture and storage. We call it Real Zero.

Fortescue has developed a Sustainability Financing Framework, enabling the future issuance of Green and Social debt instruments that will support investments in eligible green and social projects.
